Yes, I am picky about the truth
The truth is that what happened at Fort Hood yesterday was horrific. It is simply incomprehensible how a Major in the US Army, a psychiatrist who had taken an oath to do no harm, could violate every oath he had ever taken and open fire on his fellow soldiers. It is an act of betrayal that is difficult to even comprehend, much less explain.
But stupidity like this was the knee-jerk reaction of people who would style themselves as moderate. I’m sure every person who heard of the attack first feared terrorism. But our professional media did an excellent job of playing down the sensationalism and urging everyone to be calm until the facts came out. But apparently “Holly in Cincinnati” didn’t give a rats ass about the facts.
Nor do the rest of the moderators at TMV. For instance, in this thread “T-steel” tells me, in a single sentence, that he altered the title by including “UPDATE”, but that the site does not alter its titles. As I replied:
T-Steel, that is an incredibly weak cop-out. If you added the word “UPDATES” then you edited the title. I’d have more respect if someone just said, “Well, it’s incredibly misleading and has no evidence to back it up – but it made our page-load stats jump!”
To this, I was told:
Don’t play ThurmanHart. Your nit picking. I added “UPDATES” because there were updates in the author’s post (she forgot). Something that we do add around here all the time. You wanted the entire title changed since you disagreed with it and we are not changing it. We don’t force anyone to read anything here. Thank you.
Yes, she forgot. She forgot to even come close to telling the truth. This attack was an act of terrorism like Charles Manson’s actions were a part of the great race war. To the mind of a madman, such things can be connected. But anyone who is trying to be anything other than irresponsibly sensationalist, then common decency demands that they admit their mistakes.
Unless it wasn’t a mistake. Unless TMV was simply whoring the fear and underlying hatred to boost their page hits. But if you try to point that out, you are obviously nit-picking and playing.
Even Fox News will issue retractions when they are wrong.
