Also on the ballot
Remember the Governor? The following states are electing Governors on Tuesday:
Washington – Christine Gregoire (D)
North Carolina – no incumbent
Indiana – Mitch Daniels (GOP)
Missouri – no incumbent
Vermont – Jim Douglas (GOP)
Montana – Brian Schweitzer (D)
New Hampshire – John Lynch (D)
W. Virginia – Joe Manchin (D)
Vermont – Jim Douglas (GOP)
N. Dakota – Joe Hoeven (GOP)
Utah – Jon Huntsman, Jr (GOP)
The only incumbent who looks in danger on that list is Gregoire. She is facing Dino Rossi in a rematch from 2004. It was close then, and it’s too close to guess now. Mitch Daniels could potentially be upset, but it would be an extreme longshot. This, however, is the year in which longshots pay off.
In North Carolina, Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue is having trouble with GOP challenger Pat McCrory. Obama has a slight lead here, and the Senate race is too close to call with Elizabeth Dole facing Kay Hagan. If Obama has coattails, this is where it will matter.
In Missouri, Democrat Jay Nixon, the Attorney General, leads Kenny Hulshof. A Nixon win would swith control of the state.
