Perfect Storm?
CNN seems to think that Senate Dems could take 60 seats – the magic number needed to control cloture votes.
They are calling “Incumbent Disadvantage” in Alaska, New Mexico, Colorado, Virginia, and New Hampshire. Of that group, Alaska might be the toughest pick-up.
Oregon and North Carolina are toss-ups. In Oregon, the incumbent is busy pretending to be a Democrat – that makes it somewhat easier, somewhat harder. Elizabeth Dole is the incumbent in NC. If Obama picks up those two states, they’ll flip in the Senate, too. Dole isn’t looking good. Smith is in much better shape.
Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, Minnesota, and Maine are safe for Republican incumbents. Could Olympia Snowe flip even if she wins (which is as sure as the sun is a big ball of burning gas).
