Sold-out to Terror
Mark Siljander, a former Republican Congressman from Michigan, was indicted today for helping fund a terrorist organization:
The indictment charges IARA with sending approximately $130,000 to help Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, whom the United States has designated as a global terrorist. The money, sent to bank accounts in Peshawar, Pakistan in 2003 and 2004, was masked as donations to an orphanage located in buildings that Hekmatyar owned.
“IARA” is “Islamic American Relief Agency”. You can learn more here.
I would stress that it is highly unlikely that a former US Congressman was actively trying to help terrorists attack America. He does appear to be, however, guilty of lying about his lobbying activities (now why would he do that?). The fact that a former US Congressman, who has worked in international relations dealing with the Islamic word, can be duped into being part of this larger scheme. It reminds me of what a Chief Petty Officer told me back when I was in the Navy, “We don’t worry about nuclear trained personnel deciding they’d rather help the Rooskies. We worry about the Rooskies convincing some geek-nuke that the best way to help save the USA is to hand over classified documents.”
